An Evening of Learning, Connection & Board Pathways
Strong governance is foundational to effective leadership. It builds trust, accountability, and long-term organizational success, especially for non-profits, chambers, and member-based organizations serving their communities.
Join Watson Board Advisors for a practical, real-world governance education session designed for current board members, emerging leaders, and individuals interested in board service.
This evening will also create meaningful connections between local non-profits and those looking to contribute their skills through board and volunteer roles.What You’ll Learn
● The fundamentals of effective board governance
● Core director duties, including fiduciary duty and duty of care
● Roles and responsibilities of boards, board chairs, and management
● Understanding the distinction between governance and operations, and navigating “the line”
● The skills, experience, and perspectives boards are seeking today

The session offers practical insights grounded in real-world experience and will conclude with a dedicated Q&A.
Participants are encouraged to bring their questions for the presenters.

Meet our Advisors
Robyn Curry, Senior Associate
Robyn is a Senior Associate at Watson and has worked with hundreds of Board during her 10 year tenure at Watson. Robyn has worked closely with a wide varity of NFP boards across British Columbia and Cananda and is deeply familiar with the governance structures, pressures, and dynamics specific to the sector. She has facilitated conversations on role clarity, boardroom dynamics, and decision-making in complex environments.
In addition to her work at Watson, Robyn serves on the board of FarmFolk CityFolk. She brings both practical and theoretical insight to governance — and a clear understanding of what it takes to make it work in practice.
Robyn’s ongoing governance learning includes attending numerous workshops, webinars, courses and events, including: San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, Sotera Safety Aboriginal Awareness, U of A Indigenous Canada, University of Colorado

Cameron Wilson, Senior Associate
As a Senior Associate at Watson Board Advisors, Cameron supports clients on Director and CEO recruitment mandates and has recently led leadership searches for the Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade and the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce. With experience at a global executive search firm, he brings cross-sector perspective and a strong understanding of the skills, leadership qualities, and attributes boards seek in effective directors and executives.
Prior to joining Watson, Cameron served as an Advisor in the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada, managing senior executive and board appointments for Crown corporations and federal agencies.
Cameron serves on the board of the Vancouver International Children’s Festival and is actively involved with community-based organizations, including Dress for Success Vancouver and the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, bringing practical insight into governance and board effectiveness.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia and a graduate degree from Carleton University’s Clayton H. Riddell Master of Political Management program.

During the networking portion, 6-8 local non-profits will host information tables, sharing opportunities for board involvement, committee participation, and volunteering.
