Please join the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce as we host the 2nd annual Conversation with Indigenous Leaders over lunch at the The'i:Tseliya Health Center.
This year we are pleased to Welcome two very special guests:
Harry Maynard (KWAST-en-ayu) a citizen of the Tla'amin Nation. He received this ancestral name from his Elders on May 10, 2003, immediately prior to the signing of the historic Sliammon First Nation- City of Powell River "Community Accord". KWAST-en-ayu has served as his Nation's Chief Councillor and councillor (4 terms). He has lived on an Indian Reserve his whole life; governed by the Indian Act and is of a family directly impacted by Canada's Indian Residential School System.
Stewart Alsgard (Qoqoq) is a UBC graduate, secondary level teacher domestic and international; Graduate National Defence College of Canada; Retired Naval Captain, Officer of the Order of Military Merit; UBC Senate; and the Former Mayor of Powell River. Stewart was the signatory on the 2003 and 2018 Tla'min Nation-City of Powell River "Community Accord". 2004 Protocol Agreement on Economic Development and Cultural Heritage Resource protection. 2004 Bestowed with Honorary ancestral name (Qoqoq- meaning snow Owl)
These gentlemen, accompanied by local Chief Derek Epp, will discuss the following (with a strong focus on Community Accord and Partnership Practices):

Canada's colonization History (Indian Act, Indian Reserve system)
